Our Community Impact

Root Causes

Real – and sustainable – impact requires us to examine root causes. Think of root causes as the deep-seated reasons behind a problem or issue in a community. We examine issues and seek their root causes to help drive lasting positive change. Our areas of focus include poverty, affordable housing, affordable transportation, access to intimate partner violence services, human trafficking and more.

We use community engagement and research to understand the fundamental social issues facing Oxford County. We help create strategies that target these root causes rather than just addressing the symptoms. Then we put these strategies into action. We collaborate with various stakeholders, including community members, to bring about sustainable change.

Equitable Systems Change

By equitable systems change, we mean making things fair for everyone in Oxford County. It’s about examining and addressing problems and changing how things work to ensure everyone gets what they need to thrive.

Systems change is an ambitious undertaking. This is why community collaboration is so vital. As a leading social planning non-profit, we explore systemic issues, tackle them in collaboration with community partners, and advocate on behalf of Oxford County at all levels of government. We are flexible and responsive to the changing and evolving social needs of the community.

Advocacy

As a local social planning council, we advocate for the interests of Oxford County residents across various levels of government. Through these efforts, we aim to support and reflect the diverse needs of Oxford County members.

  • At the local level, we conduct community consultations. We work closely with municipal officials to address immediate community needs and service gaps.
  • Provincially, we engage in policy discussions with our local MPP’s office. We ensure that the voices of Oxford County are heard in the legislative process.
  • Federally, we strive to influence broader policy changes. We submit proposals, writing white papers and, when possible, participate in government consultations.
